'Jack' Gasque Jr. Ammons MIAMI Mr. John Oscar DARLINGTON Beauford Maurice "Reecie" Ammons, 43, of Darlington died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2001 at 4 PM in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by KistlerHardee Funeral Home. Mr. Ammons was born in Darlington County on September 20, 1957 and was the son of Maurice Earl and Barbara Segars Ammons. He was employed with Smurfit Stone of Florence and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr.

Ammons was a graduate of St. John's High School in 1975 and was selected by his fellow teammates as the recipient of the "Jerome F. Pate" Football Award his senior year. He was also a graduate of Presbyterian College in 1980 with a degree in History. While attending Presbyterian College he was awarded the "NAIA Player of the Week" for his outstanding performance in a football game.

He was the first football player from Darlington to go to the Shrine Bowl in many years. Mr. Ammons enjoyed collecting historical relics and he loved animals. He also played softball for Black Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Maurice Earl (Barbara) Ammons, of Darlington; and one sister, Alice (Robert) Amos of Darlington. Memorials may be made to the Darlington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1655, Hartsville, SC 29551. James Julius Mitcheom Sr.

HEMINGWAY James Julius "J.J." Mitcheom, 72, died Tuesday Aug. 7, 2001 in a Charleston hospital. Mr. Mitcheom was born in son of the late Jessie A. and Alice Nell Mitcheom.

He was a retired businessman and warehouseman, a member of the Indiantown Masonic Lodge a member of the Hemingway First Baptist Church and former Williamsburg County Councilman. Surviving are his wife, Rita Kohlbus Mitcheom of the home; son, J. J. Mitcheom, Jr. of Hemingway; three daughters, Deborah M.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel. Tommie Amaker MT. PLEASANT Tommie Amaker Brasington, widow of Dalton Kennedy Brasington died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001.

Mrs. Brasington, a daughter of the late Thomas Adam Amaker and Blanche Sistrunk Amaker, was born on Oct. 5, 1909 1 in St. Matthews. She graduated from Columbia College in 1930 where she was awarded the Sylvan Medal for outstanding scholarship and the President's Ring for the Most Womanly, the highest honor given a Columbia College senior.

She did graduate work at the University of South Carolina and Winthrop College and taught in the Soutla Carolina schools of Blackville, St. Matthew's, Chesterfield and Lamar. She organized the first public library in Lamar. As a 25-year resident of Mt. Pleasant she was very active in many benevolent, civic and church activities.

She was a member of Hibben United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, played the piano, sang in choir, and served through the Gentleness Circle. For rnany years she was a volunteer for Help of Charleston, Roper Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Charleston Woman's Club. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and William McIntosh of Summerville and her son and daughter-in-law, Dalton and Judy Brasington. of Charleston; a granddaughter and a grandsonin-law, Julia and Michael Stephenson of Mt. Pleasant, grandson arid granddaughter-inlaw, Bill and Hope McIntosh of Summerville, and grandson, Lachlan Brasington McIntosh of Columbia.

In addition she was the great-grandmother of Will Stephenson, Mary Lesesne McIntosh and Sara Frances McIntosh. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant.

Born May 7, 1935, in Camden, he was a son of the late Marvin and Julia McKinley Chockley. He was a retired truck driver for Suburban Propane Gas a U.S.

Army veteran of the Korean War and the Gulf War, retired from the S.C. National Guard 1052nd Transportation and attended Matthews Tabernacle Church. Surviving are his wife of Lake City; five sons, Ricky and Gary Chockley of Lake City, David Chockley of Paxville, Larry Chockley of Manning and Perry Chockley of Marion; three daughters, Julia Goins of Greeleyville, Sarah Timmons of Manning and Sherry Harrell of Lake City; two brothers, Wayne Chockley of Rushville, and James Chockley of Burlington, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Crome, and a daughter, Mary Lou Chockley. Mrs. Elam was born in Darlington County on Feb. 4, 1911, a daughter of James H. and Tina Morrell Bryant. She had I been a resident of the Charleston area for more than 70 years and was a member of Rutledge Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward "Lucky" LaChance, and her second husband, Clifford Monroe Elam. She is survived by her nephew and guardian, Col. Joseph P. Goodson and his wife, Nancy, of Mt. Pleasant, and another nephew, Mr.

James H. Bryant III of Florida. Also surviving are a grandniece, Jennifer Goodson Lackey of Mt. Pleasant, and two grandnephews, Brian G. Goodson of Alexandria, and Jeffrey J.

He was a Master of Divinity graduate of Bob Jones University; an ordained minister for 34 years of the National Association of the Original Free Will Baptist pastoring in North Carolina and South Carolina; pastored West Calvary Free Will Baptist Church of Smithfield, N.C., for 21 years; served 15 years on the Board of Trustees at the Free Will Baptist Bible College, Nashville, was an author and scholar of Sunday School literature for Randall House Publications. He was currently the pastor of the Black River Original Free Will Baptist Church of Andrews. Surviving are his wife, Anne Boseman Truett of Andrews; a son, Rev. Born to (the late) former Salina (Thomas) and Eddie Jerome Bristow of Florence County, our focus of attention today grew from a productive farmgirl to graduate from Wilson High School and later from Morris College to succeed as a leader in many areas. She made her choice to serve God through her fellow man by teaching for more than 35 years in the public schools across the Pee Dee area, but ultimately by marrying (the late) Rev. David Julian Lunn and rearing and educating their own six daughter all of whom excell today. Mrs. Lunn worked tirelessly with Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Associations in many.

Endeavors and capacities, some of which include first president of the Pee Dee Women's District Convention, president of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church's Missionaries, of the ministers' wives and much more. She served as site manager of the Timmonsville Senior Citizens' Center for the Florence County Council on Aging; administrative assistant for the Florence County Health Department, office director of the Lower Florence County Telamon (a federal housing rehabilitation program) and a few other public service capacities. She was born in Florence County a daughter of the Ethel McNeil and the late Brewington. McNeil. She was a lifelong mem: ber of Aimwell Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Mr. Malachi Milo.

Survivors include her mother of Fayetteville; four sons, Charles (Claudette) Graham, of California, LaFayette (Mary) Graham of Texas, Hamon (Dorothy) Graham Jr. and Tony (Diane) Milo, all of Florence; two special nieces, Veronica (Eddie) Johnson of Darlington and Pamela (Lincoln) Washington of, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Friday, Aug. 10 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. The services will be directed by SmithCollins Funeral Home of Marion. Mr. Gasque was born in Marion on Dec.

28, 1913, a son of the late John O. Gasque and the late Kathryn Pratt Gasque. Mr. Gasque graduated from Francis Marion High School, where he lettered in five sports. He spent Gasque his summers in Murrells Inlet and learned to survey under the guidance of Col.

Monroe Johnson of World War I fame. Mr. Gasque graduated from Clemson which was a military college in 1937 and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After college, Mr. Gasque became a civil engineer for the United States Coast Geodetic Survey.

He later worked for Vacuum Concrete, Inc. and helped design pumped concrete structures. Mr. Gasque met Velva Meier, from Fredericksburg, Iowa in Washington, D.C., and married her on June 19, 1942. During World War II Mr.

Gasque was a lieutenant in the Navy Seabees, 42nd Construction Battalion. The 42nd Battalion's first assignment was to clear Port Chicago, after an ammunition ship exploded. The 42nd Seabees built port facilities, air bases and submarine bases in the Aleutian Islands. Mr. Gasque helped build a hospital in the Philippines and at the end of the war was building a cemetery in anticipation of casualties from the invasion of Japan.

After the war Mr. Gasque lived with his bride, Velva, in Marion, where he built many homes and his son John O. Gasque III was born. Later, Mr. Gasque moved his family to Birmingham, as an engineer for Texaco, where his daughter Joan Gasque was born.

He built a steel mill in Texas, a tire plant in Nashville and a paper mill in Rome, Ga. Mr. Gasque also helped build the waterworks system for Panama City Beach, Fla. In 1961 he moved his family to Miami and worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Coast Guard, from which he retired.

Mr. Gasque is survived by his wife of 59 years, Velva; his son, John O. Gasque III of Miami; his daughter, Joan Gasque Hagen of Tallahassee; his son-in-law, David Hagen; and grandsons, John "Jay" Gasque IV and Bram Gasque Hagen. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug.
