Gustav Blum, 76, Producer Adm. Powell, at 70; Was Naval Aide to FDR Washington (AP) Retired Rear Adm. Paulus Prince Powell. 70, a combat veteran and former White House Naval aide, died yesterday of cancer in the Naval hospital at Bethesda, Md. Powell, a native of Woodview, and a 1913 graduate of the Naval Academv, assumed his first command in 1926, becoming skipper of a destroyer which operated in the Mediterranean.

Later, Powell served as Naval aide at the White House under President Hoover. In 1940 he was placed in command of the USS Ohaha and, in 1941, was reassigned to Washington as a Naval aide to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. After service in the Pacific theater during World War Il, where he twice earned the Legion of Merit, Powell attained flag rank in 1944 as a commodore. He retired in 1947 as a Icar admiral.

Powell subsequently became vice president of the Appeal Printing Co. of New York; president of the Town Hall of New York and the Adventurers' Club; a director of the New York Council of the Navy League and a director of J. D. Marsh Washington. John Schroeder, at 55; Invented Vacuum Pump Deer Park Services for John Schroeder, an inventor and manufacturer, will be conducted at 9:30 AM tomorrow in SS.

Cvril and Methodius Church. Schroeder, 55, of 36 Old Country died Tuesday in St. Clare's Hospital, Denville, N.J. A native of Germany, Schroeder came to the United States about 35 years ago. In 1948, Schroeder, who had been a machinist, invented 2 vacuum compressed-air pump and formed a corporation to manufacture it.

He was president of Neptune Products Inc. of Dover, N.J., which made the pumps. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Adelheid Schroeder, a daughter, Peggy, and a son, Richard H. Schroeder.

A. Blumenstock; Ex-Halfback Passaic (UPI) James A. (Jimmy) Blumenstock, 46, former Fordham university halfback who starred in two bowl games in the 1940s, died vesterday at Passaic General Hospital. Blum taught elocution and dramatics from 1909 until his retirement in 1958 at high schools in New York Citv. In the mid-20s, Blum produced on Broadwav "The Shame Woman," starring Florence Rittenhouse; "My Son," "Caught," "The Beaten Track." "Henry Behave!" 'Gertie," "The Mystery Ship," "Her First "Spring Song" and "The "Mystery Man." He directed early stage performances of Pat O'Brien, Edward G. His later productions included "The Love Expert, 1929; "Truly Valiant" and "Don't Look Now," 1936; "That Ferguson Family," 1938, and Hard," 1946. He directed Bertha Kalich in "The Child of the World" and "Jitta's Atonement," and upon the death of Francis Byrne, stepped into the leading role.
