Magic Spoon is my favorite protein cereal on the market right now (trust me, I’ve tried them all).
Over the past couple of years, I’ve tried every single Magic Spoon flavor they have released. Not necessarily because I love this cereal that much, but because I knew I wanted to ultimately put together a full ranking of all the flavors.
Whether you’ve never tried Magic Spoon Cereal before and you need to know which flavor you should buy first, or you’re a Magic Spoon lover and want to find the next flavor to try, I’ve got you covered.

What Exactly is Magic Spoon Cereal?
Magic Spoon is a keto-friendly cereal that aims to taste like your favorite childhood cereal without the sugar.
It is not a plant-based cereal, so it’s not suitable for a vegan diet, but it fits well in any low-carb or high-protein diet.
The nutrition facts vary based on the flavor, but most of the Magic Spoon flavors hover right around 150 calories and contain 13-14 grams of protein.
If you’re counting your carbs, each serving contains roughly 4 grams of net carbs as well, making it a solid option.
In terms of texture, Magic Spoon is very unique. First off, while most protein cereal is shaped like flakes or balls, Magic Spoon has a cheerio-like shape.
The cereal itself is crunchy, and it stays crunchy in milk, but there is a slimy nature to it that a lot of people dislike.
Personally, I think the flavor & initial crunch is good enough that I can look past the slimy mouthfeel this cereal leaves you with.
As you chew, the cereal gets stuck in your teeth almost as if you had just eaten a chewy candy. After having a bowl of Magic Spoon, you’re likely going to be picking some sticky cereal out of your teeth.
I understand that sounds unpleasant, but I truly don’t think it’s that bad. I mean, based on my review here, it’s clear that it doesn’t bug me. But I feel it’s important to share that upfront, because if you’ve never had a keto-friendly cereal before, that texture may totally throw you off.
If you can get past that slimy texture, this cereal is delicious.
Yes, Magic Spoon is Very Expensive
One of the biggest knocks about Magic Spoon is that it’s very expensive, and it’s impossible for me to dispute that.
Each box is nearly $10, which is an insane amount for many people to justify for cereal.
But, it’s important we put it into perspective.
If you compare Magic Spoon to a regular box of cereal then yes, it’s going to feel like you’re getting completely ripped off.
But when you look at the nutrition facts, each serving is much closer to a protein bar than it is a serving of cereal.
In terms of ingredients, it’s more expensive to produce a product with protein & sugar substitutes than it is to produce a regular cereal with wheat and sugar.
If the average protein bar is about $2 and a box of Magic Spoon contains 5 servings that are comparable to a protein bar, that comes to $10.
To be clear, it’s still expensive. I totally get it. I would never make Magic Spoon a staple of my diet because I’d go broke.
But as an occasional treat, I certainly don’t mind it, and I think it’s worth trying.
How to Get More Bang For Your Buck
When I eat Magic Spoon, I almost always mix it with regular cereal.
What you see here is honey nut Magic Spoon mixed with honey nut cheerios, and it’s delightful.
Not only does mixing your cereal make the box last twice as long, but it makes it significantly more delicious.
Sure, when you mix cereal it doesn’t have quite the same nutritional benefits as Magic Spoon alone. If you’re trying to avoid sugar altogether, then mixing isn’t the right move for you.
But if you’re like me and just want to enjoy a high-protein treat, mixing Magic Spoon with your favorite cereal is a total game-changer.
I typically mix 2 servings of Magic Spoon with 1 serving of my favorite cereal, so I end up getting nearly 30 grams of protein and about 450 calories. That’s a great meal for me.
Magic Spoon Flavor Ranking
Magic Spoon is constantly rotating their flavors, so depending on when you are reading this, certain flavors are not going to be available to you.
I’ll make sure to note which flavors are seasonal, but these are the current flavor options available when purchasing a variety pack:
- Fruity

This is subject to change, of course. But since I’ve tried over 20 flavors over the past year or so, I’m going to rank them all for ya!
If you come across a new flavor that isn’t on this list, rest assured that I’ll do my best to try it ASAP to add it to this list.
21. Peaches & Cream
I can’t really judge this flavor fairly, which is why I dropped it at the bottom of this list. Why? Well, I don’t like anything peach-flavored.
I tried this box as part of a bundle, and I can vouch for the fact that it does indeed taste like peach. So if you love peach, this may be right up your alley.
But peach-flavored cereal is never something I’d crave for breakfast, so it earns my bottom spot.
20. Honey Graham
If you’re hoping for Golden Grahams from this flavor, prepare to be disappointed.
Golden Grahams is one of my favorite cereals of all time, but you get none of those flavors with this honey graham Magic Spoon.
The cinnamon is the most prominent flavor in this one, and the “honey” flavor is just an extra level of sweetness that was added, but it doesn’t resemble honey in any way.
Considering there are far superior cinnamon-focused flavors that Magic Spoon offers, this is a hard pass for me.
19. Pumpkin Chai
You can definitely taste what Magic Spoon is going for with this flavor, but it’s extremely heavy on the spices.
I can see how some people might really enjoy that, but it’s not for me. I didn’t taste any pumpkin flavor in this one, rather just a super heavy dose of pumpkin spice in every bite.
18. Salted Caramel
If you’re craving a bowl of salted caramels for breakfast, this Magic Spoon is going to leave you feeling disappointed.
In a blind taste test, I’m not sure I’d know what this flavor was supposed to be. To me, it just tasted like overly sweet cereal.
It’s lacking that balanced buttery flavor you’d hope for in caramel, and the salt flavor really does not come through.
17. Banana
Like the peaches and cream flavor, I don’t really enjoy banana-flavored food.
One positive thing about this flavor is that is tastes like ACTUAL bananas and not like artificial banana flavoring.
If you’re a fan of eating Cheerios with sliced banana (a pretty popular combination) then this flavor will be higher on your list.
For me, I don’t want to just eat a bowl of banana for breakfast, but to each their own.
16. Smores
Rather than go with cereal that is smores flavored, Magic Spoon decided to throw this medley together to create the experience of Smores.
It’s essentially the honey graham flavor, cocoa, and frosted all mixed together.
Depending on the spoonful you get, the experience is different with each bite. But overall, I mostly just taste chocolate and cinnamon, and I don’t taste any of the iconic s’mores flavors (like marshmallow) that I was hoping for.
15. Cookies & Cream
Cookies & Cream is not a bad flavor, but it’s not what I was hoping for. If you’re expecting a replica of Oreo O’s cereal, you need to adjust your expectations a bit.
This flavor is essentially a combination of dark chocolate and frosted cereal, and those are the two flavors you get. The chocolate cereal doesn’t quite resemble Oreo cookies, rather just dark chocolate.
It’s a delicious combo, and I enjoy this flavor, but it’s not quite Oreo.
14. Blueberry Muffin
Blueberry is a solid flavor, and I fully understand why it’s in Magic Spoon’s main slate.
While I don’t quite taste the “muffin” flavor in this cereal, the blueberry flavor is really refreshing. It’s not overpowering, and it’s not artificial tasting like a lot of blueberry-flavored foods out there.
One of my personal favorite combinations of Magic Spoon flavors is Blueberry Muffin + Frosted to create a bowl of blueberries & cream cereal.
13. Chocolate Chip Cookie
No, this isn’t Cookie Crisp, but it’s darn good. The texture of Magic Spoon leaves you wishing this cereal were crunchier to mimic actual cookies, but they really nailed the flavor.
The cereal contains little chocolate specks (I hesitate to call them chocolate chips since they are so tiny) that add an extra layer of texture that is really welcomed.
12. Strawberry Milkshake
Strawberry Milkshake is an awesome flavor, and Magic Spoon somehow captured the essence of a milkshake really well.
I was fully expecting this flavor to just taste like strawberry, but there’s a creaminess to it that actually resembles a strawberry milkshake.
If you want an extra hit of creaminess, you can mix this one with Frosted to create delicious strawberries & cream cereal. But it holds up very well on its own!
11. Oatmeal Cookie
Oatmeal cookie is pretty cinnamon-forward, but I was surprised to taste the oatmeal flavor actually coming through.
I do wish the flavor was a bit more balanced in favor of the oat flavor, but I don’t mind the strong cinnamon flavor of this one.
There are a couple of other cinnamon-focused flavors higher up on my list, but oatmeal cookie is thoroughly enjoyable, especially if paired with some cold oat milk.
10. Sugar Cookie
If the birthday cake flavor of Magic Spoon didn’t exist, then this one might be a bit more exciting to me, but I find them extremely similar.
One of my favorite cereals of all time, if not my number one favorite, is Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch. So naturally, the bar for a sugar cookie cereal was set very high.
This Magic Spoon flavor doesn’t quite have that iconic sugar cookie flavor that Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch managed to capture, but that doesn’t make this a bad cereal.
To me, it’s very similar to birthday cake, but with an extra bit of sweetness that’s supposed to give you that frosting experience.
9. Birthday Cake
Cap’n Crunch used to make a cereal called Sprinkled Donut Crunch (I believe it was discontinued) and this birthday cake Magic Spoon actually reminds me a lot of that.

I do wish the sprinkles added extra texture to this cereal rather than just being colored specks within the cereal, but I suppose that’s tough to do while keeping this a keto-friendly cereal.
On flavor alone, I absolutely love this one, and the flavor is exactly what you’d hope for.
8. Apple Cinnamon
If you’re a fan of Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, you’ll love apple cinnamon Magic Spoon.
The cinnamon flavor is strong, which is something I’ve come to expect from Magic Spoon, but the apple flavor really comes through.
Unlike a lot of apple-flavored snacks out there, it’s not an over-the-top apple flavor. It truly resembles Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, and I’m very much into it.
7. Cinnamon Roll
No, this cereal doesn’t taste like cinnamon rolls. It doesn’t really taste like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, either.
And yet, it’s a really delicious cereal.
It’s very cinnamon-forward, resembling real cinnamon much more than something like Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
But it’s balanced out very well by a solid level of sweetness. This is one of the flavors that I like significantly more in milk, as the milk helps tame the cinnamon flavor to the perfect amount.
6. Frosted
Frosted is a classic, and if you want a “basic” flavor, then this is a great one to start with.
On its own, frosted Magic Spoon resembled Frosted Cheerios. The texture is obviously different than regular Cheerios, so it changes the experience a bit, but I find the flavor to be pretty similar.
That being said, it’s definitely on the sweeter side.
Because of this, I love using the frosted flavor to mix with other flavors of Magic Spoon and other cereals.
Since it’s pretty sweet, it pairs SO well with chocolate-based cereal. Or, combine it with a fruity-flavored cereal to create flavors like strawberries & cream or blueberries & cream.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s delicious on its own, but I prefer mixing this one.
5. Cocoa
If you’re a fan of chocolate, there’s nothing to not like about this flavor.
The only real downside to this flavor is that you don’t get much chocolate runoff, so you’re not left with chocolate milk at the bottom of your bowl.
But if that’s the only negative, then we’re in pretty good shape here.
The chocolate flavor is closer to dark chocolate than it is something like Cocoa Puffs, but I prefer that. When paired with milk, the slight bitterness is cut down and it ends up being the perfect level of dark chocolate for me.
4. Honey Nut
While the honey nut flavor doesn’t quite taste like honey nut Cheerios, I find it to be absolutely delicious.
There’s a nutty flavor to this cereal, and a very pleasant level of sweetness, although I don’t find the flavor to be that of actual honey.
To me, this is actually an improved version of the Frosted flavor; it’s a pretty basic flavor, but it has the perfect level of sweetness.
I love to mix this one with Honey Nut Cheerios, and it creates one of the best bowls of cereal I’ve ever had. The two flavors complement each other perfectly, and I highly recommend it.
3. Maple Waffle
Waffle Crisp is a top-5 cereal for me, and I thought there was no way that this Magic Spoon flavor could even come close, but it thoroughly surprised me.
Every single flavor you’d hope for in a maple waffle cereal comes through in this one, and it is perfectly balanced.
The flavor is mostly maple, but it’s balanced out and not overly sweet. It truly resembles Waffle Crisp (or Eggo Cereal), so if you’re a fan of either of those cereals, you’ll absolutely love this one.
2. Peanut Butter
Not only is the flavor of this one nearly perfect, but the texture of Magic Spoon lends itself perfectly to peanut butter flavor.
Since the cereal is slightly sticky, it ends up creating an experience similar to eating actual peanut butter, which ends up working extremely well.
I absolutely love peanut butter, and this cereal does not disappoint.
I’m not sure why Magic Spoon isn’t selling a flavor that is chocolate and peanut butter combined, but mix this one with the cocoa flavor and thank me later.
1. Fruity
Fruity is my number one flavor of Magic Spoon, and it’s not particularly close.
Based on reviews I’ve found online, it seems that Fruity is the consensus number one, and it makes a ton of sense.
The original formula of Magic Spoon was decent, and I found this cereal to taste similar to Trix. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t get me overly excited.
Now, it is a spot-on replica of Froot Loops. I have no idea how Magic Spoon captured that flavor so perfectly, but they nailed it.
If the texture of Magic Spoon were the same as regular cereal, then you’d never know you weren’t eating Froot Loops. This one is the flavor I recommend the most, so if you can only try one box of Magic Spoon, let it be this one!
